Maintenance and usage tips: Extending the life of your equipment

To ensure the long-term, stable operation of your motor, please follow the professional advice below:

Alignment during installation: When installing the load, ensure that the coaxiality error does not exceed 0.1 mm. Do not strike the motor output shaft directly, as this may damage the internal gears.

Thermal management:  Although the motor is highly efficient, please ensure adequate ventilation or fit heat sinks when operating continuously at full load. The ambient temperature should be maintained between -10°C and +45°C.

Wiring guidelines:  Ensure a strict separation between power cables and signal cables. Never reverse the polarity of the power supply, as this may easily cause the driver to burn out.

Torque margin:  When selecting a motor, it is recommended that the actual load torque does not exceed 70% of the motor’s rated torque, in order to cope with the impact caused by frequent starts and stops.

Q1: What is the main difference between brushless motors and brushed motors?

A: There is a major difference in the method of commutation. Brushed motors rely on physical carbon brushes for commutation, which are prone to wear and require regular maintenance; brushless motors use electronic chips for commutation, eliminating contact wear and thus offering a longer service life, higher efficiency and no spark interference.

Q2: Why must brushless motors be used in conjunction with a driver?

A: Brushless motors do not contain any mechanical structures for automatic commutation; they must rely on an external driver (controller) to detect the rotor position in real time and control the direction of the current in order to generate continuous rotational power.

Q3: How do you choose between parallel-shaft and right-angle motors?

A: The Logic Behind The Choice Is Very Simple:

If you have ample horizontal space available and are looking for maximum efficiency and value for money, please choose a parallel-shaft motor.

If you have limited horizontal space on your equipment, or require 90-degree vertical speed transmission, please choose a right-angle motor.

Q4: What causes a motor to overheat?

A: Possible Causes Include:  excessive load (exceeding the rated torque), poor heat dissipation (e.g. in an enclosed enclosure), voltage mismatch, or incorrect drive settings. Please check the load conditions and improve ventilation.
